Impressions: ASCII is a major publisher of computer-related books in Japan. Twice a year, they publish this thick directory of what they think is Japan's best 5,000 Web sites. And guess what? PhotoGuide Japan has been included for the first time with this current issue (Fall-Winter 2001) that came out in June 2001.

The Web sites are organized under various categories. Each Web site is shown with a B/W screen shot, the URL, and a short description in Japanese. Under the "Photography - Camera" category (on page 116), only 22 Web sites are listed (10 sites per page). PhotoGuide Japan is there on the same page as the big boys such as Canon, Minolta, Kodak Japan, and Fuji Film. Imagine that!

PhotoGuide Japan has been listed in Japanese Web directory books before, but it was always just a simple listing of the Web site name and URL. So this is the first time that a screen shot and a description are included. It's also the first time to appear in such a selective Web directory. The screen shot (showing sumo champion Akebono) is already out-of-date since I changed it, but you can still clearly see the Web site's name and cover photo.

I was first contacted in March by the book's editing team, and I promptly gave my permission to include my site. Thanks to them and to ASCII. (Reviewed by Philbert Ono)
