What is PhotoReviews?
It is PhotoGuide Japan's book reviews and mail order catalog of
Japanese photo books, magazines, and CD-ROMs for sale. It is the largest and
most popular section within the PhotoGuide Japan Web site. It also integrates
links to auction pages at Yahoo! Japan Auctions where you can find out-of-print
books and a lot more stuff via our Auction Proxy Service.
PhotoReviews' Books catalog offers fine-art and serious photo books and magazines. It is further divided into Photographers and Genre. We also have Magazines.
We also sell celebrity (pop idols, etc.) photo books on a request basis. We used to have an online catalog of celebrity photo books, but not anymore. You can instead find pop idol books at the publishers' Web sites and order through us.

Do you review all the photo books
published in Japan?
No. What you see in PhotoReviews is just a small fraction of what's
out there. There's no way we can acquire and review every single photo book
that comes out in Japan. But this is not a problem because most photo books
are not worth reviewing/selling anyway. (2004.05.10)
Can I order a photo book not listed
in your online catalog?
Yes, you can inquire about any Japanese photo book and we will check
if it is available. Tell us the model's or photographer's name or book title
and/or ISBN number. If it is available, we will send you a price quote (which
includes shipping) and ship the book after your payment is confirmed. (2002.06.01)
What if the book I want is out-of-print?
It might be available at Yahoo! Japan Auctions or Rakuten Ichiba.

Do you also sell videos and DVDs?
We don't have any videos or DVDs in our online catalog, but if you
know the specific title, we can sell it to you. Or you can use our Proxy
Service to look for videos and DVDs at Yahoo! Japan Auctions or Rakuten
Ichiba. Note that Japanese DVDs might not work with your DVD player outside
Japan. We do not sell porno videos and DVDs. (2003.07.20)
I don't know anything about Japanese
photo books. What kinds of photo books are there?
Fine-art and serious photo books include all other types
of photo books (landscape, documentary, travel, nature photography, etc.).
Their main purpose is to promote the photographer and his/her work or art.
Celebrity photo books feature a celebrity, usually an actress (or actor), singer, pin-up or bikini idol, TV/game show personality, pro wrestler, etc. Celebrity photo books are mainly produced to promote the idol or her image and to gain public attention. Usually, the photographer is much less important than the female celebrity. New idol photo books are always being published in Japan, and they are a major subculture probably unique to Japan.
Secondhand photo books are also available. If you want an out-of-print book, then you will have to find a secondhand copy. Most secondhand books sell for less than the original retail price. However, premium prices are also common. We do sell premium photo books as well. (2004.05.10)
